Bertram Black, Esquire – how do you do? Alongside Prof. Eve Hegarty (my trusty partner in wine), we’re responsible for the curious creations you’ll discover on our menus. While Eve can be found (or not) scouring the globe on a relentless quest for the finest, most sought-after ingredients to work our magic upon, I’ll be at the fire, hammer in hand, cogs whirring, in pursuit of the most marvellous flavours to offer up to your exquisite taste. Not one to brag, but I tell you, we’re really quite the team.

Did you know? We now offer private hire on Mondays where you’ll basically have the run of the gaff for whatever you might be planning! Oh, and fellow scholars from the University of Suffolk & Suffolk New College + NHS & blue light staff get 20% off food. Cheers to that!

THE FORGE STORY

While Bertram Black Esq. and Prof. Eve Hegarty lurk in the shadows (if you have your wits about you, you may glimpse them), painstakingly exploring, tinkering and finessing to handcraft our tastes and tipples, the day-to-day running of this most intriguing independent dining discovery falls to husband and wife team, Grant and Robyn. Their Forging vision is just a 30-second walk from the historic waterfront and marina in Ipswich, home to a spacious bar area, a 2-storey restaurant and an outdoor roof terrace – all marvellous locations for sampling some exceptionally tasty bites and wondrously peculiar potations.
