Attending The Theatre After Lockdown?

Attending The Theatre After Lockdown?

Over the last few weeks, theatres in and around England have been given the green light to reopen and resume performances – with Scotland and Wales set to follow from 7 August. Although this is great news, there is still a lot of confusion and uncertainty on what exactly the rules are when attending a theatre show. Which is why we have put together a fact sheet on what you can currently expect when attending a theatre show in England. This is just a general guide, please check in with the theatre you’re planning to visit for their specific guidelines.

Cleanliness and Covid-19 safety procedures are still in place

Now that most venues are allowed back to full capacity, the importance of efficient and effective cleanliness is immense. A lot of theatres in England are still on high alert when it comes to stopping the spread of Covid-19, and therefore have decided to maintain certain coronavirus safety regulations including; regular disinfectant cleans after every show, the use of face coverings for all staff members, and even continuing the use of mandatory ‘check ins’ via the NHS Covid-19 track and trace app. Each theatre is different, check with individual theatres for their specific health & safety guidelines.

Double vaccination proof is required to enter certain theatre venues

After a lot of speculation over the last few weeks, certain theatres around England have announced that they intend to only allow people admission in to their venue if they have proof to determine they have had both Covid-19 vaccinations, a negative covid-19 test 48 hours prior, or proof of medical exemption. Check with individual theatres what their specific entry requirements are.

Social Distancing is still happening in some theatres

Even with the social distancing rule no longer a legal requirement, a selection of theatres are still planning to implement the rule. In order to keep attendees, and staff safe during these still uncertain times. The majority of people actually liked having a little distance from others whilst watching shows, so this news won’t be too concerning for those people. Check with individual theatres if social distancing is required.

Wearing masks is still advised

Even though in some areas of the country wearing masks in no longer law binding, some theatre venues have strongly advised visitors to continue to wear them in order to protect themselves and others – unless you are medically exempt. In Wales and Scotland, masks are still compulsory. Check with individual theatres if masks are required.

There may be other rules or requirements when attending a theatre in England, so check with induvial theatres what their exact requirements are so that you have an easy, enjoyable and relaxed experience.
