Built in 1788, The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond is the UK's oldest working theatre in its original form. Entering the pocket-sized auditorium is like stepping into another age - you can almost hear the rowdy antics of the lively Georgian audiences and smell the tallow from the mulititude of shimmering candelabra. Guided tours take place daily (except Sunday) from mid-February to end of October. There is also a full programme of live performances throughout the year with a wide variety of drama, dance, music, comedy and children's theatre, including the legendary pantomime.
