A concert in two parts. The renowned Brodsky Quartet give us music from the string quartet’s heartland - Schubert’s restless energy and Beethoven’s beautifully compressed, profound final quartet.

There’s a rarity too – an exquisite little gem from the teenage Britten. In the second half they are joined by the Florens Quartet to play music more commonly played by a larger string section but captures the spirit of more intimate gatherings. Copland’s crowd-pleasing dance is so authentically rowdy you can almost smell the liquor and strawbales. Barber’s achingly poignant Adagio for Strings, so beloved of film and tv directors, was originally written for only four players, whilst Elgar’s charming little Serenade is so delicate and wistful it could be as suited to the domestic living room as to a grander stage.

This event is part of a wider celebration of chamber music, further details will be announced soon.
