DON'T MISS The Local Authority At Joseph Rowntree Theatre

DON'T MISS The Local Authority At Joseph Rowntree Theatre

DON'T MISS The Local Authority – an incredibly raw, honest and laughably realistic (ok, maybe not THAT realistic) stage play at the stunning Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York. Think you know what happens at your local council meetings? We guarantee you don’t.

Imagine turning up to work and finding your drunk boss’s ex trying to kill you for being a lousy worker. Yep, this anarchic lockdown comedy theatre show is full of head spinning twists and turns. Be prepared to pick your jaw up from the floor as you watch in front of your very eyes absolute chaos erupt on stage – organised and well thought out chaos we must add.

We wouldn’t be hyping this incredible, high-quality production up as much if the storyline just ended there. Oh no, we’re talking top brass embezzlers, secret alcoholism, wig abusing, drug dealing, inappropriate language, scantily clad hookers, community dogging by-laws, jittery policemen and poodle bullying. Just another local authority council meeting really.

A complete an utter world wind of emotions, you better strap yourselves into your seats because it’s going to be one hell of a bumpy ride! In a time where life has become a dull, lifeless routine due to lockdown, this comedic, world-class, hard-hitting theatre show is the fresh air we all need.

NALOXONE THEATRE ENSEMBLE proudly presents THE LOCAL AUTHORITY at Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York on the 5th 6th and 7th August 2021. If you would like to buy tickets (why wouldn’t you), you can find them here.

Short Synopsis.

What starts off as a local council emergency budget cutting meeting on Zoom for the first time, rapidly descends into an un structured free for all and a chaotic mêlée. The manager ends up drunk and her ex-partner (Dan Lucas) turns up as a hired gun ready to get rid of unwanted and crooked staff. Little do the petrified and confused staff know, he is actually part of the embezzlement team. Later Dan and his accomplice Neil Planner, whilst celebrating their haul and thinking they are in the clear, order two local escorts for the evening. That’s when Richard intercepts them and thwarts their plan. The conclusion is they get arrested, Lesley has to go to the priory, Richard wins the day and order is restored. Just another day at the Local Council really.
