Hairspray brings the big hair, big songs and big voices!

Hairspray brings the big hair, big songs and big voices!

When you think of Hairspray you expect big hair, big songs and big voices and this production of the popular show delivers everything you could hope for and more.

Leading lady Katie Brace, making her professional debut as Tracy Turnblad, couldn’t be more perfect for the role. Her undeniable energy, charm and belting voice are truly unforgettable and even more impressive than that hair!

Brenda Edwards as Motormouth Maybelle deserves a special mention as you really can’t imagine how spectacular her voice truly is! Her rendition of ‘I Know Where I’ve Been’ is utterly jaw-dropping and deserves the reception it gets from the audience- which even saw some members jump to their feet mid song to applaud how effortlessly she hits the big notes!

In a show as spectacular as this you definitely expect a bucket load of laughs and yet again the show DELIVERS! Rebecca Jayne- Davies as Penny Pingleton is absolutely brilliant, her comedic timing and over- the- top dancing meant that I often found my eye following her around the stage just so I wouldn’t miss any of her genius portal of this quirky yet lovable character. The hilarious due of Norman Pace and Alex Bourne smashed their roles as Tracy’s parents and their performance of ‘You’re Timeless to Me’ had the audience screaming and crying with laughter – trust us when we say you are in for a treat!

Of course Hairspray isn’t only popular for the big songs and big hair but also for it’s heartfelt message. The show is still as pungent today as it was in the 80’s when the original 1988 film came out, and the message to do the right thing and strive to break down prejudice is still something audiences resonate with and need to hear.

Hairspray is the ultimate feel-good show, however we do warn you that you will most likely be humming the extremely catchy ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’ for the foreseeable future!

Hairspray is currently playing at The Manchester Palace Theatre until 13th of November, after which it will continue to tour around the UK.
