Review of Creation Theatre's Romeo & Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is one of the world’s most famous love stories, however we can guarantee you have never experienced the story quite like this. Presented by Creation Theatre this show makes sure the audience are just as part of the action as the performers themselves. What sets this show apart is how every single detail has been considered to make the performance as interactive and engaging as possible.

The engaging, interactive experience starts even before the show begins where you are asked to choose a side – Montague or Capulet. Straight away almost casting you as an extra member of the story, meaning you are more than just a passive audience member from here on in. Immediately your decisions effect the way that you experience the show, as this decision decides which opening performance of the show you see but more importantly who you attend the Capulet's ball with: Romeo or Juliet.

The engaging experience only continues throughout, from the encouragement to wear a disguise so you are not noticed at the Capulet ball, to the direct decisions you make to determine the characters actions you really are immersed into the production, making this much more than your average online show, but a fun, interactive experience.

The cast is full of the UK’s best Shakespearean actors, including the talented Katy Stephens, Sebastian Capitan Viveros, Clare Humphrey and Dharmesh Patel who between them must have played every one of Shakespeare’s characters at both the RSC and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. The obvious talent of the cast is noticeable throughout, and the classic story is portrayed in such a way that both stays true to Shakespearean work but is also new and engaging for a modern, online audience.

The show is a fantastic mix of live performances and pre-recorded footage, however due to the seamless nature of the transitions and the clever integration of technology this only adds to the unique experience that this show promises. The show expands across several highly thought out and perfectly executed digital worlds for the audience to explore and discover.

However, our experience was just one of 100 different variations of the show led by our own unique choices, so why not embark on your own adventure and book your tickets today. What will your fate be?

The show is booking until 23rd May, with tickets available here
